"A PERSON THAT SAVED AT LEAST ONE LIFE WAS NOT BORN FOR NOTHING"

SHADOW OF KATYŃ

I’m a Polish Member of Parliament and member of the Katyn Families , who was very keen on joint flight on 10 April 2010 with the President of Poland to Katyn ... Only by the surprising coincidence ( I hadn’t current diplomatic passports ) aren’t swapped with one of the colleagues and I haven’t found a on board the plane ...

I wrote this poem because I was shocked by the frightening information about crash the presidential plane near Smolensk

It is a response to this terrible disaster , which caused the death of many well-known to me personally , great people.

This poem is , perhaps, a desperate attempt to make sense of cruel, divine judgment of God ...

"Roots"

The roots of trees

That were deliberately planted on the mass graves

Grew over

The skulls of shot prisoners...

So maybe, it was

The ramble of the falling plane

Which took the Chosen Ones to heaven

That was needed for the world to hear

This long forbidden word:

KATYŃ

Piotr van der Coghen
